Abstract
Burns of the hand result in an alarmingly high percentage of thermal injuries and represent a challenging problem in the management of burn patients becauuse of severe functional disability. The poor results achieved in among of these hand burns are intimately related to the depth of the burn, to infection, to edema, to immobilization, and finally to the subsequent scarring and contractures.
To prevent these complications, several authors have proposed tangential excision of the burned tissue at an early period, with immediate skin grafting. There is no part of the body in which early excision of the full-thickness burn has been advocated more than hands. It is the purpose of this paper to consider several problems in the treatments of burnt hands with 180 cases treated in this clinic.
